Lemon Bread
I just love this. We used to beg Mom to not put in nuts, and she often would make one loaf with and one without.

Ingredients & Directions
Bread:
- 1 cup Soft Shortening (Crisco)
- 2 cups Sugar
- Cream
- 4 Eggs, slightly beaten
- Mix in
- 3 1/3 cups Sifted Flour
- 2 tsp Baking Powder
- 1 tsp Salt
- Sift together
- 1 cup Milk
- Add to mixture alternately with flour
- 1 cup Chopped Nuts (optional) (Don't do it!!)
- Grated zest of 2 Lemons
- Add
- Bake in 2 15×3 greased pans @ 350F for 1 hour
Topping:
- Juice of 2 Lemons + lemon juice to make 2/3 cup
- 1/2 cup Sugar
- Pour over loaves as soon as they come out of oven. Refrigerate until cool before removing from pans.
